SUSTAINABILITY

OUR WAY TO SUSTAINABILITY

Taking care of the environment is an essential part of who we are. At Fikona, we are continuously looking for more sustainable methods in order to contribute to the well-being of our planet and challenging ourselves to obtain new certificates. This varies from social care to sustainability, and from diversity to technological enhancements.

Labels |

Our labels are 100% paper-based, making them fully recyclable as old paper. The sticks are made from recycled plastic and can be recycled again after use.

Environmental certification |

The MPS Environmental Certificates that we have been awarded (MPS-A, MPS Global GAP, MPS Socially Qualified, MPS-Quality, MPS product proof for Ficus) safeguard our commitment to the requirements and objectives when it comes to quality and sustainability in the ornamental plant sector, with the ultimate goal of minimizing the impact on the environment.

GGN label |

With the GGN label we prove that all plants have been produced under responsible conditions. This process is fully traceable.

Sedex certificate |

By granting a Sedex certificate, we guarantee that we conduct trade in an ethical and responsible manner throughout the entire chain. We are also able to monitor and optimize our performance in this area.

Automatization |

The process of planting, transportation, crop protection and watering is completely automated. This allows us to use energy, soil, fertilizers, crop protection and water in the most sustainable way.

Energy |

We have our own combined heat and power (CHP) unit. With this we generate our own electricity, and also use the released heat and CO2 entirely to cultivate the plants.

Sustainable cultivation |

Sustainable cultivation is an important motivating factor for us and is constantly evolving. We use organic crop protection as far as possible, use energy-efficient climate control, separate waste streams and reuse rainwater.
